Learning From Losing

In football, we all hate to lose. But it’s inevitable. How we react to a loss is what defines us. But how can we react to losing in the correct way?

It can be easy to be angry, upset, and feeling hopeless after losing a few games in your season so far.

However, losing can provide key information for coaches and players, areas to work on to be better for the next game.

It is also very important to adopt a mindset of taking positives from a negative situation. What is one good thing that happened despite our most recent loss?

Losing can be a source of motivation too. The feeling is horrible, and we do not want to feel this again. Can this spur us on to work and train that extra bit harder? To practice our habits in midweek in preparation for training?

What’s one loss you’ve had this season or last where you felt terrible about?

Try to re-visit that game, and frame the loss with a different perspective:

What’s one positive you can take from the game?

What’s one thing from that game that made you realise you have an area of your game to work on?

If you were to replay that game, how might you of played it differently?

In football, hard work and skill is important, but we must always remember to adopt the correct attitude to bring us closer to success.

See you tomorrow for training at Regents Park!
