The U14's girls had their first Cup game and they couldn't do a better performance. Take a look at the match report from the proud coach Chloe.
Saturday's game was always going to be a big test and experience for the girls. We were playing a team top of the league, in the league above us!
I told the girls before the match to not let this phase them and to go out there and get as much experience as possible and to focus their mindset on the league games, not this Cup. All of the teams in this Capital Girls leagues are well established and been playing together for months or years.
We are a completely new team, who have never played 11 a side before and still establishing ourselves and gelling. As stated many times before, we have so much potential and we showed this last week beating a high calibre team 3-0!. But on the other hand, we had a lot to take away from this game. We need to improve on playing from the back. The goalkeeper and back 4 need to work together to play in possession and move the ball forward.
They also need to work together moving forward as a line and not keep saying too deep as it leaves midfield ending up doing all the work. We also need to improve our communication and passing. Whenever we countered the ball and in attack mode, we need to be in a space and communicate and help each other.
However, the positives we can take from the game is we kept our heads up and kept fighting no matter what the scoreline was and with playing such high-level opposition. We also made a great number of tackles, did some great attack down the wings when we got the opportunity, and some great saves from Chloe in goal.
I look forward to the last league game of 2020 next week. Keep it up, girls!
